ADD/ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

ADD/ADHD and ASD have underlying disorders of perception. Homeopathic remedy selection for these patients is relatively difficult. We therefore created the Checklist for Perception Disorders (Tools), where we distinguish between symptoms of high reliability, intermediate reliability and low reliability. It is important to focus on the highly reliable symptoms, which can help to quickly narrow the selection to a few likely remedies. If this is not possible, the symptoms of intermediate reliability can be included. The symptoms of low reliability on the back of the checklist should only be used as additional confirmatory symptoms for final remedy selection. Of course, if ADD/ADHD patients have other chronic illnesses, we include their complaints unrelated to perception disorders. Patients must therefore also complete the questionnaires Diagnoses and Main Symptoms and the Checklist of Reliable Symptoms.

The Assessment Sheet for Perception Disorders (Conners Global Index, CGI) is a means of evaluating treatment. Patients or their parents complete it before treatment and at each follow-up. The points total reflects the intensity of the symptoms – if treatment is successful, this total should steadily decrease. It is important to inform the patients that there is a gradual improvement and that treatment must be continued for several years. The graphic below shows the progress of the Conners Global Index for ADHD and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) over two years of treatment. With treatment lasting several years, the improvement that has been achieved is largely maintained beyond the end of treatment.

In 2022 Gaertner, Teut und Walach confirmed in a meta-analysis of individualised homeopathy “a clinically relevant and statistically robust effect in the treatment of ADHD”. I.e. the homeopathic treatment of ADHD is highly evidence-based (Springer Nature, June 14, 2022).
